'Lunar Landscape' EP review

With each release Mellophonia has been cementing its place in the world of melodious electronics. This latest EP brings contemporary analogue appreciation with a decent nod to the pre-computer age. For his latest outing, Mellophonia's head honcho has teamed up with Damon Palermo of Mi Ami for Mellophonia. The EP opens with 'Lunar Landscape'. Lush strings and beats are soon met by the vintage chords of a Moog. The track takes the listener on a journey of subtle key changes with just a dab of soundtrack grandeur waiting in the wings. To add a new energy to the astro proceedings is a remix by the infamous Bernard Fevre, aka Black Devil. Fevre is a French legend of avant garde electronics and library music. The original is morphed into Fevre's trandemark sound. Echoing chords and generous reverb are at the heart, with just a touch of 'H-Friend' coming through in the vocal samples. Next up the duo send the listener on a ride of electric boogie. Funky analogue basslines bring a hint of electro to the track with the beats and undercurrents keeping the track tethered to its cosmic roots. Offering up a remix are the prolific cosmonauts In Flagranti. The team of Sasha Crnobrnja and Alex Gloor are no strangers to remixing and add their own mastery to the original whilst injecting a dancefloor slant to dreamy synthlines and warm pads. The digital release will contain an bonus track 'Aquamarine', giving a bit of extra cosmic synth joy to your earphones.

Zodiac - Pacific remixes EP /digital/

1. Zodiac - Pacific (original)
2. Zodiac - Pacific (Ilya Santana remix)
3. Zodiac - Pacific (Pete Herbert remix)

Almost 30 years after the release of their first album 'Disco Alliance', the music of Soviet electronic-disco group Zodiac still maintains its unique sound. Standing the test of the time, Zodiac's music has been held dear to the hearts of many disc jockeys, collectors and electronic enthusiast. One of the standout tracks 'Pacific' which truly defined their atmospheric, synthesizer disco sound, will now be available on 12" single by the label Mellophonia. To honor its re-release, the song will be accompanied by two outstanding remixes by Ilya Santana and Pete Herbert. Ilya's version emphasizes the synth melodies with a modern, crowd friendly mix that still remains true to the original. Pete Herbert's takes his mix in a different direction with a very nice old school house version complete with piano and grooving bassline. Both remixes really bring together the melodic disco and electronic sounds of both eras making this record a must have for both djs and fans of electronic, cosmic and nu-disco music.

Frederic Mercier - 'Spirit'

B1. Frederic Mercier - Station 713
B2. Frederic Mercier - Island

Originally composed in 1978, the ultra classic synthesizer-disco-pop album 'Pacific' by Frederic Mercier is finally being given its due credit. Appearing on many dj playlists and even more collector wishlist, it has not been easy to find copies of his work. This debut album from Mercier not only shows his true talent, diversity but also why his music so sought after to this day. From the slo-mo cosmic classic “Spirit” to the french electronic pop sound of “Station 713”, Mercier plays a beautifully orchestrated album of Moog filled space anthems. Thirty years later his music continues with the re-mastered release of four tracks from “Pacific” by the label Mellophonia. These selected songs will take you back on a journey to France in '78 with a smile on your face the entire time. Recommended for djs and fans and of the french cosmic sound, library disco, and outerspace instramentals.
